Hip Hop, beyond beats and rhymes.
Prateek Lidhoo was born to Kashmiri migrant parents in New Delhi, India. Throughout his childhood, he has had an inclination towards music, which reached its peak when he discovered Hip-Hop through a friend in 2006. Struggling with teenage life, Prateek found himself at an engineering college in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Although he was already into writing raps, college was where Novacane was born. With influences ranging from Atlanta Trap to Boom Bap to Bollywood, he developed a unique style of songwriting that was reflective of a kid's life in middle-class India. Novacane has switched from rapping in English to Hindi, according to the genre and mood of the song.
Since the very beginning, Prateek has been a bit of an introvert. So, getting along with producers and other collaborators has always been a hindrance. This inculcated a DIY spirit in him and as a result, Novacane produces, mixes, masters, edits videos, and designs all his content himself. Over time, he has developed a simplistic yet technical approach to songwriting. Being fond of different musical styles, Novacane is part of a unique group of musicians called ‘Prograstination’.
Novacane is currently working on his music independently and building his name in the Indian Hip-Hop scene. He operates from his home studio in Ghaziabad, UP. He has a bubbling presence in the New Delhi underground Hip-Hop scene and has collaborated with artists like Sez on the Beat, Panther, and Kritagya. He continues to spread the message of hard work and independence through his lyrics, and will soon be a big name in Desi Hip-Hop.
In 2022, he released his debut album 'VOICES', which was an honest, raw expression of an introvert's mind. He’s made a name for himself in music and film journalism, having interviewed artists like Honey Singh, Naezy, and Ikka, among others. He was the host of the award-winning podcast 'Do I Like It' on The Quint. He served as Chief Sub Editor at India Today Podcasts, where I bridged the gap between street culture and mainstream media through editorial strategy and storytelling.
His music been featured on Rolling Stone India, BBC Radio, and ATKT.
